I tell my two boys "there are those that do and those that make excuses." Unfortunately teenage boys don't always listen to their Dad so I decided to follow my own advice and hopefully teach them by example.

Shawn Dawson (founder of Dream Mountains) and I have been friends since high school. Although our lives have taken very different paths we have always remained good friends. Shawn has asked me to go on one of his adventure climbs before but I have always had family commitments. When he asked me this summer to go I decided that this was something I really wanted and needed to do.

The greatest part of going on this adventure is being able to raise money for Colon Cancer Canada. A former high school classmate of Shawn's and mine recently passed away of colon cancer at the age of 45. Far too young for anyone to leave us and another reminder that life is short so do something that you have always wanted to do.

Machu Picchu is going to be a physical challenge for me and I am looking forward to getting in shape for this climb. My challenge to you is to help me raise at least $5000 for Colon Cancer Canada and to do something you have always wanted to do.

After signing up for this climb and choosing Colon Cancer Canada as my charity I found out my cousin Steve McCaugherty had been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. He is now undergoing Radiation and Chemotherapy treatments. So needless to say - this is for you buddy.

I have chosen to support: Colon Cancer Canada

Colon Cancer Canada - It's not something everyone wants to talk about. But we want to get the word out there. And that starts with doing the math.

Colon cancer is 90% preventable if detected early. In 2011, an estimated 22,200 new cases were diagnosed in Canada. Close to 8,900 Canadians lost their lives that same year. Something does not add up! At Colon Cancer Canada we are working towards drastically changing these numbers. It is our wish that no one experiences the pain and suering of colon cancer. It is preventable, treatable, and beatable!
