When Shawn Dawson asked me if I’d like to participate in the Dream Mountain excursion to Machu Picchu I jumped at the chance. I was delighted to be given an opportunity to go to one of the true wonders of the world and to experience it as it should be experienced - climbing up. While I am flattered and honoured that Shawn gave me the opportunity to participate in this excursion, I am also flattered and honored to be given an opportunity to help raise money for colon cancer research. I’ve done some reading up on it and I’m excited to help raise money for research into a disease which, if caught early, is quite often treatable. I like the idea that some of the money I raise might help go towards awareness to encourage people to have themself tested for colon cancer at an early stage to try and turn what can be a deadly disease into a treatable one.

Like many of the other members of my team, Team Picchu, this will be a personal challenge for me both physically and mentally. Physically I still have some work to do to get in shape and mentally I’ll have to prepare myself for this. I’ve never done anything quite like this before- four days of straight climbing will certainly put me to the test!

So with honour and remembrance to those who have suffered from colon cancer or who have know someone who has, and with honor to Shawn for organizing this event and all the past events and raising so very much money for so very many good causes, I want to thank everyone involved for the opportunity to participate and look forward to a successful climb and a good time to be had by all!

Colon Cancer Canada - It's not something everyone wants to talk about. But we want to get the word out there. And that starts with doing the math.

Colon cancer is 90% preventable if detected early. In 2011, an estimated 22,200 new cases were diagnosed in Canada. Close to 8,900 Canadians lost their lives that same year. Something does not add up! At Colon Cancer Canada we are working towards drastically changing these numbers. It is our wish that no one experiences the pain and suering of colon cancer. It is preventable, treatable, and beatable!
