As quoted by author Pat Conroy "Once you have travelled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey." Since spending a year in Scotland and travelling throughout Europe, I knew that my heart and soul was destined to see the world and its finest parts. After hearing about the Dream Team 2013 trek to Machu Picchu I knew this was to be my next adventure. Not only do I get to experience one of the world’s greatest sights, but I have the opportunity to raise money and awareness for a charitable cause near and dear to my heart.
My climb up Machu Picchu will be for the Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad whose proceeds go to the "Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation" for prostate cancer research and awareness. In 2012, over 26,000 men will have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and over 4,000 will die of it. Having lost my grandfather from this disease and having my uncle beat it, one can see why this cause is so dear to me. Having the opportunity to increase awareness for this worthwhile cause and help educate everyone on prostate cancer will ensure men can continue to be there for their families and friends for years to come.
One diagnosed with prostate cancer will have a personal mountain to climb and I will climb a mountain to help minimize the number of men who have that personal battle.
