I have always enjoyed the outdoors and was very excited when I heard about this opportunity to hike Machu Picchu. I have been the Business Manager for the Ottawa Insurance Brokers Association (OIBA) for the past three (3) years. I remember Greg Janes, Past President of the OIBA, mentioning that Shawn Dawson, founder of Dream Mountains, was planning on taking a group to Peru in 2013. As it turns out, Shawn Dawson has committed to take two (2) groups – OIBA (team Machu) and another group of outdoor enthusiasts (team Picchu) on this trek in June 2013.

I decided to participate in this trek for a few reasons - to help raise money for a charity, being able to travel at a discounted rate with an experienced climber (Shawn Dawson) and the team building/training activities available for both teams to participate.

Since its inception in 2009, Dream Mountains has been committed to raising money to support seven (7) charities. This number of charities is representative of the seven (7) highest summits on every continent, including Mount Everest, that founder, Shawn Dawson, climbed in under two (2) years.

I have chosen Habitat for Humanity as the charity that I will be supporting with the money raised from this trek. All the money raised goes directly to the charity and a donation receipt will be provided to you for income tax purposes. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that's mission is "To mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty."
