I think most people, who are eager to travel and embrace living, develop a desire to do so because of how they are raised, and I'm no exception. I have many fond memories of trips and outings with my family that contributed to my interest in exploring the world; however, by far the greatest influence came from watching someone who couldn't truly enjoy living due to poor health; my Dad.

When I went to approach my family about this trip, I had envisioned my dad telling me I was a total meshugana! (that's Yiddish for crazy person). To my amazement, he sent me words of encouragement-he told me to seize the opportunity noting I might not get another one like it. I was really touched by his enthusiasm. Instead of seeing it as daunting, he saw it as an amazing adventure with a very worthwhile purpose. Sadly, that was to be the only part of this journey that I was able to share with him; he passed suddenly on October 24th.

Though my journey to get to Machu Picchu has only just begun, it has already become very sentimental, and I am more determined than ever to physically endure the demands of the climb, and more importantly, to succeed with my fundraising goal in support of Habitat for Humanity.

I greatly admire the work done by Habitat for Humanity, and I feel what they do is very important and highly valued, particularly by those that are aware of the housing problems that exist here and in other parts of the world.
