Having a worthwhile goal in life means having something to strive towards; it means having a direction, a focus, a purpose. The older I get in life, the less important material goals seem to be. But the pursuit of happiness and purpose is worthwhile. Having a "happy and purposeful life" fits right into what Eleanor Roosevelt said: "Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product."
Climbing Machu Picchu with Dream Mountains is not a goal unto itself. My purpose is to raise as much money as I can for Habitat for Humanity. I am seeking your support for this worthy organization:
"Habitat is a volunteer, nonprofit, housing organization that builds simple, decent, affordable homes and sells them with no interest mortgages to low income working families seeking an affordable home in which to raise their children. People of all faiths and cultures are warmly welcomed by Habitat.
Potential Habitat for Humanity families are low income working families living in inadequate housing and who are willing to put in 500 hours of 'Sweat equity'. The Habitat model has homeowners making monthly payments on interest-free mortgages, which are approximately 25-30% of the family income and includes taxes and insurance. Habitat believes that home ownership will help break the cycle of poverty facing many low income working families.
The real miracle of Habitat is that it not only changes the lives of the families receiving the house, but it provides a tremendous sense of purpose and fulfillment for many volunteers and supporters."
I hope you will join me in supporting Dream Mountains and Habitat for Humanity. Machu Picchu will make the third World Heritage site for me to visit in three years (the other two being the Great Wall of China and the Amalfi Coast). 100% of all money raised will go to Habitat for Humanity - a worthy purpose!
