I have wanted to see Machu Picchu in Peru for a very long time. Imagine how delighted I was to learn about Dream Mountains and an occasion to not only make the trip but raise funds for a very worthwhile charity - Habitat for Humanity - at the same time. We will spend 4 nights hiking and camping on the Inca Trail... and arrive at the Sun Gate at dawn on the morning of my 50th birthday to watch the sun rise over Machu Picchu. How awesome is that? I can think of no greater gift than doing this with the support of my friends and family.

Habitat for Humanity is the charity I have chosen to support during this adventure. Habitat for Humanity was established in 1976 as a non-profit, volunteer organization building safe and decent homes for less fortunate families. "Their Mission - To mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Their Vision - A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Their Values - Housing for All - Access to safe, decent and affordable housing is a basic human right that should be available to everyone. Human Dignity- We believe in the worth and dignity of every human being. We respect the people we serve and those who help us in this effort. People are our greatest resource."

I have spent the last 25 years selling country homes and cottages with Century 21 Macintyre in the Gatineau Hills of Western Quebec. Not everyone who needs a home can afford a home. What an incredible opportunity we have to be able to give a family a house and a break. At some point we all the reach an understanding in life that in order to keep our wealth, we must give it away. I hope that many of my colleagues, friends, and family will feel the same and sponsor me in the climb.

It is worthwhile noting here that 100% of the funds raised go directly to the charity. We pay all of our own expenses for the trip and Dream Mountains takes nothing for organizing the event. Please give, if you can, and a tax receipt will be issued for your donation. My daughter Kelly says that she will bake and deliver cookies to all who donate over $250!
