When I was approached by Shawn Dawson, founder of Dream Mountains to trek with his team to the top of Kilimanjaro in 2011, followed by a trek to the base of Mount Everest in 2012 in support of charity, I enthusiastically pursued the opportunity to combine adventure with the privilege to help others.

Having raised over $13,000 for both Watercan and Habitat for Humanity NCR since 2011, my goal for 2013 is to raise at least $5,000 to support Colon Cancer Canada. I've witnessed loved ones who had to fight colorectal cancer (CRC), an uncle who recently conquered it and my dear friend, Lara, whom I just recently lost to this horrible disease.

CRC as the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of death from cancer for both Canadian men and women. Their tag line says it all, "We're behind your behind."

In June of this year, I will be joining a group of trekkers in Peru to trek to the summit of Machu Picchu. My inspiration and strength come from my two, precious twin granddaughters Tiana and Mylah.

I am proud of Dream Mountains and it's commitment to ensuring that 100% of the money raised goes towards Colon Cancer Canada.

Please help me help others by making a donation to this important charity.

I have chosen to support: Colon Cancer Canada

Colon Cancer Canada - It's not something everyone wants to talk about. But we want to get the word out there. And that starts with doing the math.

Colon cancer is 90% preventable if detected early. In 2011, an estimated 22,200 new cases were diagnosed in Canada. Close to 8,900 Canadians lost their lives that same year. Something does not add up! At Colon Cancer Canada we are working towards drastically changing these numbers. It is our wish that no one experiences the pain and suering of colon cancer. It is preventable, treatable, and beatable!
